Our dear mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend Lena Czarnecki (neé Kindret), aged 97 years, passed away on November 6, 2016 in Dauphin, MB.

Left to mourn her passing are her sister Betty, sons Larry (Valery) and Rudy (Diane), close nephew Ray (Vera) and niece Sonja (Bill), and numerous other nieces and nephews, nineteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives.

Lena was predeceased by her loving husband Michael, son Ronald (Charlotte), her parents, Harry and Angela (neé Sopel), step-mother Mary (Perpeluk), sisters Anne (Charles) and Helen (Steve), and brothers Nick, Steve (Pearl), and John (Mary).

Lena and Michael raised their family in Pine River where they owned a hardware store and lumber yard. Upon their retirement in 1980 they moved to Winnipeg. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with Anne and Charles, with whom they were married in a double wedding ceremony with many family members and friends in attendance. After Michael passed away in 2002, Lena moved to the West Haven Retirement Home and Holy Family Home in Winnipeg, and later at St. Paul’s Nursing Home in Dauphin.

Lena was always a very active person and a remarkable organizer, a leader in the community centre, her church, and the Catholic Women’s League. She was a wonderful cook and loved hosting family and many friends. Lena was a very kind and generous person who made friends everywhere she went. Lena’s greatest joy was to spend time with her children and grandchildren, watching their growth and achievements. She lived her life guided by strong religious beliefs, convictions, and love of God. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Lena.

“And at the end, what really matters – and is a good measure of a past life – is that you loved and were loved. The circle of love is everything.”

A funeral service for Lena will be held on Saturday, November 12th at 1:30 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Robert Polz officiating.
